—Amaechi and the Confusion of APC-PDP
YBTC News—The countless talks by Mr Rotimi Amaechi, Nigeria’s Transportation Minister, over the non performance of his former party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the past 16 years is a show of shame and exorbitantly pointless. In fact, Mr Amaechi has downgraded the intelligence of Nigerians to the extent that he has forgotten that he was part of the rot created by the PDP.
If not for Nigeria political setting, Amaechi does not have the gods to come out openly and accuse the PDP of squandering the country’s treasury. To put the records straight, Amaechi was a Speaker, Rivers state House of Assembly and also a Governor under the party he is now calling looters of the treasury. Am sure a sound mind doesn’t need anyone to remind him that he was a looter also. Perhaps, Amaechi has indirectly told Nigerians that he ate part of the country’s commonwealth.
Recently, in Adamawa, during a mega rally of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Amaechi who is the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council, APC, stated that the PDP can only beat APC on corruption scorecard.
As reported by Sahara Reporters on January, 9th, 2019, Amaechi was quoted saying “This election is between two parties that have been in power. We challenge PDP to an open debate where the masses will be present. Let them show their scorecard and we will show our own too. The only place they will beat us is in corruption,”
During same rally, the former Rivers state Governor shamelessly said “You have to go out and vote. When you vote, do not leave. PDP people are magicians because if you go, two thousand would become two million. You know I was in PDP, so I know this. Stay there and vote. When they announce the results, you can go home.”
In the same vein, during another APC rally in Minna, Niger state, where Governor Abubakar Sani Bello flagged off his campaign to seek second term in office, Mr. Amaechi reiterated that members of the PDP are broke and that they are struggling to come back. He stressed that “their coming is not to serve but to steal our commonwealth again”.
One cannot deny the fact that the PDP has put down the country to it knees, but it is now difficult to identify who is the APC and who is the PDP. Perhaps one may say the only difference is that this one is the Umbrella party(PDP) and the other one is the Broom party( APC).
The rate at which the political parties, particularly the APC is receiving new members from other parties is quite alarming considering how low political ideologies do not apply in our political system. Day by day, week by week new set of members are unveiled by political parties in Nigeria. Funny enough, just like the January transfer window in European football leagues where players get to sign for another club in search for greener pasture.
Last week, a former PDP national Chairman, Adamu Muazu alongside high members of the PDP were unveiled by President Muhammadu Buhari in Bauchi as new members of the APC. Similarly, a suspended Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Babayo Gamawa and a member of the PDP’s Board of Trustees, Kaulaha Aliyu, have defected also joined the ruling APC.
In Niger state, the Vice president, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo during the flag off ceremony of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello received three former gubernatorial aspirants under the PDP as they defect to the APC. They include former deputy Governor and Ambassador to South Africa, Ahmed Musa Ibeto, Mohammed Baka, Umar Ahmed Dogon Koli and Hannafi Muazu Mai Sudan.
Now, considering the juicy number of transfer of PDP members to the APC how could one separate between these two parties? What is the likely difference? Maybe I will just stick to my earlier assumption that the difference is just one carries broom and the other stays under an umbrella.
Most importantly, the APC under the Buhari administration has over the past 3 years dwell more on fighting corruption. Now, the question is, why would the APC who boast about fighting corruption allow ‘corrupt’ people from the PDP to join them? Also, even if they do does that mean the defectors are now free from the ‘stealing fever’?
Also, assuming the majority of the PDP join APC who do we call the PDP? Who are now the ‘looters of the treasury’ as pointed out Amaechi?
Its high time the ordinary Nigerian take note of all these tricks that are capable of causing mayhem to our political system. Both parties are bird of same that flock together. All they are after is their own personal interests and not the public interests.
