Campaign of calumny: David Mark’s daughter cautions Abba Moro, others.

YBTC News—Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Otukpo/Ohimini House of Representatives in Benue State, Mrs. Blessing Onuh has advised former Interior Minister and PDP senatorial candidate for Benue south, Mr Abba Moro to come up with issues based campaign rather than resort to cheap blackmail and campaign of calumny.

Mrs. Onuh who is the daughter of the immediate past Senate President, Sen. David Mark also carpeted her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponent for name-dropping.
The former FCT Social Development Secretariat Mandate Secretary advised her opponent to campaign on issues that touch the lives of the electorate and stop engaging in character assassination.

Moro who is the PDP senatorial candidate for Benue South Senatorial Zone had reportedly asked the electorate not to vote for Mrs. Onuh because she is a woman and cannot do the job.

Moro had in a rally told the electorate not to allow the cock, the symbol of APGA (Blessing’s party) to crow in Benue South and advised all his supporters to “kill any cock that crows”, as it is unacceptable to allow a woman to lead them.

However, in a swift reaction, Mrs. Onuh described Moro’s statement as one tantamount to deny the people and by extension women the fundamental human right to vote and be voted for.

In her words, “being a woman does not deny me the right to contest for any elective position of my choice. I am prepared and eminently qualified to run for the election.

“I am surprised that a former minister of the Federal Republic and somebody who ought to be sufficiently exposed and widely traveled can descend so low not to value the worth of women in this changing world.

“As a gender activist, I see this as a challenge to all women and urge them to stand up and condemn this assault on womanhood while rising up to defend their own in the forthcoming elections.

“I have what it takes to represent Otukpo/Ohimini in the House of Representatives. My past record of contributions to development in the area especially women and youth empowerment are indisputable testimonies to demonstrate that I am capable.

“Those casting aspersion on me because I am a woman are only scared of my track records. I am happy that our people know this and they would demonstrate it by voting for me come February 16th next month

“I can only ask our people not to be distracted by such unguarded comments but I call on my teeming supporters to be law abiding, get ready to vote and protect our votes during the elections”

She assured that if elected her cardinal objective will be to speak for the good people of Otukpo-Ohimini and attract dividends of democracy to her constituency.
