In this exclusive interview with Abiodun Jamiu, the Creative Director of the Hub, Mr Olarewaju Oyedeji speaks extensively on the story behind the Hub exploits in the Tech industry in Nigeria.
Abiodun: Can we meet you?
Oyedeji: My name is Olanrewaju Oyedeji. I am the Creative Director of Nigerian Technology Market. I am also a management and finance expert.
Abiodun: The Nigeria Tech market has been making headway in the media space, what are the motivations behind the hub?
Oyedeji: We thought about starting the Technology Market owning to various researches. We felt realistically that the best way to solve major problems lies in the Technology and Information Technology. We also wanted to support efforts of government . There is the strong believe that we can do alot with Technology and information technology.
We can fight hunger, we can fight poverty, we can make the economy more powerful. We can even improve the standard of Education. We started this project which is the first of its kind in Nigeria.
Abiodun: Being the first of its kind in Nigeria, how does the hub intend to improve the economy bearing in mind the dearth of IT in Nigeria?
Oyedeji: Truthfully, the biggest challenge we have faced since inception is making Nigerians understand the need to be trained on Information Technology and Technology Skills.
We however believe that with millions of Nigerians using smart phones and technology gadgets, we can make a difference with the right motivation and orientation.
Technology is a high earner. Many Nigerians can make a living out of it. We strongly also believe that the world may leave us behind if we do not encourage Technology and Information Technology use adequately.
There should be no reason to have a smartphone and be broke.
We also have a beautiful E-commerce platform with a unique interface.
Abiodun: The E-commerce? What’s it all about?
Oyedeji: We have noticed that the challenge of E-commerce in Nigeria is it’s accessibility to low and middle income earners especially the technicality that maybe involved.
We have designed the first of its kind platform for Technology and Information Technology gadgets. Our aim is to encourage the use of E-commerce in Nigeria by making our products affordable and also the interface very easy for all.
Abiodun: The standard of education in Nigeria has not been technology driven, how does the hub intend to improve learning in the country?
Oyedeji: We have introduced a free E-institute where we intend to empower young Nigerians. We have started lessons and we have had Nigerians showing interest.
We believe that there are many things which our academic curriculum has failed to capture in Nigeria which is why we are interested in bridging the gap.
We also intend to have a nationwide tour to preach to Nigerians why they need this skills more.
We hope to get support and also hope to pull this through because Nigeria needs it.
Abiodun: The unemployment rate in the country is getting alarming, how does the hub intend to tackle this?
Oyedeji: We have a Job bank that focuses on Technology and Information Technology .
All we do is ask Technology and Information Technology experts to register their profile on Technologymarket.com.ng
We use of partnership, relationship with various organizations , event organizers, agencies and other multinational companies to get them refered for jobs.
This way we will be doing alot of good to many individuals and will help many persons put food on their table. We want to use technology and Information technology to fight poverty.
Also through our training on the E-institute, We intend to empower many. We won’t just train them but we will give them the support to excel by helping those who want to set up.
Abiodun: Any advice to the Nigerian youths towards embracing technology?
Oyedeji: Technology has become a most for every youth to embrace.
If you do not have the knowledge, you may not survive in the real sense.
