2023: Tinubu Settles for Muslim-Muslim ticket

YBTC NEWS —After weeks of consultation with critical stakeholders, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has finally agreed to pick a Muslim running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election against popular opinion of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje made this disclosure on Saturday during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration in the state.

It could be recalled that there has been a lot of concern among Nigerians, most especially in the Christian camp against the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket in the forthcoming general elections.

Tinubu had, in June this year, emerged as the APC’s presidential flag bearer and in the same month picked Alhaji Kabir Ibrahim Masari, a Katsina politician, as a placeholder in order to meet up with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline.

But Ganduje while speaking with about 100 clerics at the state Government House as part of activities to mark the Sallah festival said Tinubu was advised to pick a Muslim running mate.

“We have advised him to pick a Muslim deputy and he has agreed. A Muslim-Muslim ticket is a reality. It is not something new in Nigeria.”

He also asked the clerics to pray for Tinubu to emerge as Nigeria’s president come 2023.

Ganduje also urged them to offer prayers for his administration’s peace and progress.

He, however, asked the clerics to also pray for his Deputy Governor, Yusuf Gawuna, who has emerged as the APC governorship candidate for the 2023 elections in Kano State.
