—Black Out Hits OAU as Examination approaches
YBTC NEWS—Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife has expressed fear over the total black out experienced in different lecture halls in the Academics area of the varsity.
This was made known in separate interviews with YBTC NEWS Correspondent.
Speaking with a student Gbadamosi Tunde, he said ” I am confused, we are just battling with the ongoing national strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), now the school management have refused to supply light to some areas in the Academic area of the University knowing fully that examination is around the corner and we have not been able to read because we don’t have access to were we can read”
“The management should do something to it as soon as possible so that there won’t be anything like mass failure ”
Speaking also with another student, Bamidele Timi, he said” when the management knows they will not give us light to prepare for our exams they shouldn’t have set the timetable for the examination. How can we survive without light? We need light so as to be able to read”
“Our parents won’t want to know that we haven’t been having lectures and not having access to read because of the black out in the academics area” he added
Speaking with another student, Fabummi Ruth, she said ” the best thing the management can do is to allow us go home and they should extend the academic calendar, so that we can be able to have time to read ”
“We have had issues of light for over 1 week now and it has affected my performance in my test. The management should do something to it as fast as possible ” she added
Reacting to this, the Public Relations Officer of the varsity, Mr Olanrewaju Abiodun has sad the light is a general thing and its not from OAU so it should be resolved soon.
In his words, he said “OAU isn’t an island on its own where students should think they can enjoy a full power supply. The university management will only do what they are capable of doing” he said
This is coming as Obafemi Awolowo University Students have expressed fear on the state of lectures even as Academic Staff Union of Universities and Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics continue to disagree over strike action
