OAU To Introduce Compulsory Skill Acquisition For Students In New Curricula- VC

YBTC NEWS-The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede has revealed that the Management of the institution would introduce a compulsory skill acquisition for all students in the new curiculla which is to commence next session.
This assertion was made by the Vice Chancellor at the opening event of the 13th International Conference of Faculty of Technology, which was held at the ACE Building in Obafemi Awolowo University. The conference would hold between Monday, November 17 and Thursday, November 20, 2019.
While speaking at the event, he said the plan came after a survey and looking at the importance of skills to ensure that graduates produced yearly by the University are self sustaining even after campus and they can relate well with industry demands.
In his words, he said, ” If students can be trained on Skill acquisitions like; App development, shoe making, fashion designing and many other skills, students would be able to stand economically after they have graduated from the school ”
He also praised the importance of Technology in the modern day society
“Technology and Information Technology is at the rising and it’s evolving day by day. Students needs to be opened to the use of technology as it would be a leverage to them and this would help them more in their skill acquisition field. The skill acquisition would be embarked upon by next session and management would be very keen with it to make sure it’s been imbibed by all Faculties and Departments” he added
Also speaking at the event, the Former Registrar of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Mr Dotun Awoyemi, stated that there is need to tap Technology towards improving University administration and development
“Technology is now advancing and improving and people should be well vast with technology because everything in the world is now been done by the use of Technology, the University administration should not be left out”
Mr Dotun who was the lead speaker for the opening event noted that the absence of Technology made University administration difficult but it became easier upon the advent of Technology.
Also at the event was the Deputy Vice Chancellor(Administration ) of the University, Dean Faculty of Technology Professor Aderonmu among other top guests
