YBTC News—The Branch Chairman of the Academic Staff of Union of Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, Mr Adeola Egbedokun has said the Union as a whole is against the Examination date been fixed by the University Management.

This statement was made by him in a chat with our Correspondent.

Speaking with the Academic Staff Union Of Universities Branch Chairman (Oau Chapter), Mr Adeola Egbedokun he said, “ASUU strike is in force and my members are committed to observing and prosecuting the strike action faithfully. Let me also assure you that ASUU members are not going to participate in the purported examination”

“We are not interested in the failure of students and this is the reason ASUU members would not set exam questions for courses not taught. Let it be known that there are regulations guiding lectures and examinations. There are clear definitions as to the number of weeks lectures must hold and also how examinations should be conducted. ASUU members are not law breakers”.

“As to what the union is doing, I will only say that we are prosecuting the strike faithfully to ensure that the soul of our universities is delivered from collapse” he added

Also speaking with our Correspondent he also, he gave our Correspondent the report of the Congress which was held. The statement Report of the Congress which was Obtained by YBTCNEWS and was signed by the National Secretary.

Part of the Statement reads thus, ”
Congress commended the Union on the progress recorded so far on the struggle.Members of
the branch,both at OAU and IAR&T were also commended for the irresolve to continue to
prosecute the action,irrespective of intimidation.Congress, therefore,resolved to continue to
support the struggle until the attainment of the desired goals.
Congress observed that the University administration,some Deans and Heads of Departments
had engaged in the illegal and undue re allocation of courses, teaching and ordering processing
of results,to lecturers not qualified ot each and process results of examinations which they did not teach or where such courses are not within their areas of specialization.Congress further observed that the actions of the University administration and lecturers involved were in violation of Section27 of the University Examination Regulation made pursuant to the University of Ife Law,1970 now Obafemi Awolowo University (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act,2004v as well as best international practicesfor conducting examinations inUniversities around the world.

Congress resolved that theVice Chancellor, Deans, Heads of Departments and other individuals involved shall be held responsible and accountable for all unfortunate consequences likely to result from these actions,at the end of the strike action.

Congress also noted the report on staff school and observed that implementation of the court judgment in staff schools should be implemented by all Unions in the Universities ”
